Hello! It’s
great to have you on my blog!
We are
starting the second period of this semester and I’m happy to share with you a
little bit of the class we had on March 5th and 7th
On March 5th
we learned about three methods that have a collaborative approach which are the
following:
1- community language learning is the
teaching method that emphasizes learning in a group that is like a tribe. In
this method, learners rely on each other for support and create a sense of
mutual learning. Additionally, this method doesn’t require preparation from the
teacher, instead bringing a topic in the target language then students have a
natural conversation and interaction, which is why this is more effective for
students in intermediate and advanced levels, besides, the purpose is to
acquire fluency.
2- Task-based teaching focuses on planning, teamwork and requires a well-crafted project, also it requires more time than the community language learning due to the preparation of activities, for example, the presentations we had two weeks ago.
3- In simple words, Content-based teaching is about teaching a foreign language by studying subjects such as science, social studies, math, geography, etc.
On the other hand, as an example we made groups, we chose a leader who took notes of our mistakes, in our case, we chose Genesis, then teacher Orlando gave us controversial topics and we discussed about it.
On March 7th we made had review about the previous session which was the collaborative approach and learned more about the activities of this method. Just to mention a few of them: pair groups of discussions, role plays like dramas, jigsaw activities, listening triangles, talk partners, think pair and share moving, and some others.
The activity that caught my attention was the
jigsaw activity, which is about making groups, assigning them a task to collect
information and then the students exchange the information.
