GIDEOS INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERING SERVICE

Hi! It is great to have you back in my blog. Due to a volunteering service on April 21st  to 26th some of my classmates(Irene, Saul and Alison) didn’t attend class, which is why I’m going to tell you a little bit about my experience.

First of all, the volunteering service was requested by the Gideos international group of El Salvador, this group is dedicated to making the Word of God available to everyone and, together with the local church, reaching souls for Christ, and they distribute bibles around the world. So I was assigned to different places (schools and universities) and people who only spoke english in order to distribute the Bibles, in my case I worked specifically with a businessman named Erik Oosthuizen along with some of my classmates(Saul, Irene, Alison, David) and other businessmen. During the whole week, we visited some schools and universities such as “Concha viuda de Escalon”, “Centro Escolar Las Moritas” in Lourdes, Colegio TAI in Ilopango, “Universidad Nacional” "Evangelica university", and others places. Unfortunately, some schools didn’t open their doors but some others were so happy to receive the bibles and hear what the missionaries wanted to say.

On Friday they organized a banquet to talk about the statistics of the job done during that week, and based on their statistics we visited 112 places(universities, schools, hospitals and police departments)  and 77,789 bibles were distributed.

I thought my work was done on Friday, however Erik asked me to be his tourist guide as he wanted to spend more time in our country because his flight was going to be until 7 pm. Of course I was more than happy to be Erik’s guide as it was the first time I did something like this. So on April 27th Erik and I went to El Tunco beach, besides it is great option as many tourists go there. After that, he wanted to buy some souvenirs for his family so we went to the national handcraft market, later we went to downtown I tried to show him some of the most emblematic places, then we drank some coffee and ate a chocolate dessert. We definitely had a great time and he thanked me for all the assistance.

We had a busy week and we faced many challenges such as their planning schedules, transportation, sometimes understanding the different accents of some members, but at the end of the week we learned a lot and I personally enjoyed meeting those people and help them with their mission and it was worth all the effort.
