Myself and Grammar translation method

Hi!

Welcome to my first entry of this blog!

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Misael Rafael, I’m 28 years old, one of my passions in life is music and I’m a fifth-year student of the Translation and Interpretation degree at Evangelica University.

Now I want to share with you what I did during my first class in the subject Didactics I with teacher Orlando. Basically during this class, we were told about all the content(multiple learning techniques and intelligence) we would learn during the semester and teacher Orlando gave us a brief explanation about some topics, at the end, we answered a few questions he had for us.

I think this subject has interesting topics and I’m happy to learn new things this year.

During our class of January 26th, I learned about the “Grammar translation method” which people used to translate different type of information, such as news, literature, philosophy, religion, etc., and was very common for learning a new language before and after 1850.

Just as many methods, the “grammar translation method” has its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, for example, one of its strengths that it helps to learn grammar, its weakness was the the lack of listening and pronunciation, its opportunity was the development of creative and reflective writing and its threat that the resources were limited.

I was really surprised that this method is very old and it is still taught to learn languages, but through the years it has evolved.
