Last entry- Final demostrations

 Hi!

Welcome to the last entry of my blog.

Let’s talk about our classes from May 21st and 23rd. First on May 1st we learned about Jazz chants which are rhythmic ways of speaking a language that help students practice the natural patterns of stress and intonation. This technique was created by Carolyn Graham, these chants use rhythm, repetition, and music to make learning fun and effective. They often involve a call-and-response format and can cover many topics, from simple words to complex grammar.

After watching some videos about Jazz chants, we created ours. For example, Irene and I created one that said:

“What do have in the classroom?”

“ A red bottle”, “A red bottle”

“What do have in the classroom?”

“A pink bagpack”, “a pink bagpack”

“What do have in the classroom?”

“a brown desk”, “a brown desk”

“Those are things we have in the classroom.”

It was funny because the idea just came out of nowhere and we enjoyed it.

On May 23rd we started with teaching demonstrations.

First, Madeline’s group explained basic grammar and as part of their activity, they gave us some cards with a verb, we had to say it in English and Spanish, and include it in a sentence.

Second, Kimberly’s group talked about Vocabulary by playing the game “Hot potato” and after listening to all the words, we played a Kahoot.

Alejandra’s group taught us about advanced pronunciation and as an activity, we played bingo, it was fun, unfortunately, there was a power outage and we couldn’t continue, but my group won the third place.

Daniela’s group explained pronunciation and as part of the activity we listened to the song “Snowman” by Sia and they asked some questions about it.

I still can’t believe we are almost completing this semester.  I just want to thank my friends, classmates and teacher Orlando for making this a great semester.

Blessings!

Receptive and productive skills

 Hi!

I’m glad to have you reading my blog once again. Last week we learned about receptive and productive skills.

When it comes to teaching a language, receptive and productive skills refer to two different ways students interact with language, for example, receptive skills are about receiving and understanding a language, such as listening (understanding the spoken language) and reading (understanding written language).

On the other hand, productive skills is about producing and using language, such as speaking (using the language to communicate) and writing (using written language to communicate).

Receptive skills are about taking in information, while productive skills are about creating and expressing information. Both types of skills are essential for effective communication and language learning.

Receptive skills involve understanding information, while productive skills involve creating and sharing information. Both are crucial for effective communication and language learning.

See you next week!

Describing teacher

Hi, welcome back to a new entry of my blog.

During this week we learned about the topic “describing teacher” and we commented about our experiences with our teachers.

As I have said it in my answer through Vocaroo, the rol of a teacher is not easy because there are many things consider when teaching. For example, organizing a lesson before the class and even have a plan, also when teaching, they have to transmit energy within a classroom and even use their body language to explain many topics, additionally, they have to build a respectful relationship with their students so the interaction and the learning experience can be better.

Describing learners

Hi!

During last week we learned about th topic “describing learners” which is about considering different elements when it comes to learners, for example, the age, learner differences, language levels, motivation and background.

The age is about how old or young the learner is, and based on that, learners can be young children, adolescents, or adults. This is important to identify as each category learns in a different way.

The learner differences is about taking into account the multiple intelligences (verbal-linguistic, logical-mathematical, interpersonal, etc), learning styles(VARK, KOLB)and characteristics(Enjoys grammar exercises, good academic skills, etc.).

The motivation is about the reason that moves a learner to do something or learn. It can be intrinsic or extrinsic.

I think all these aspects are interesting as they are useful not just for teachers but for students.

GIDEOS INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERING SERVICE

Hi! It is great to have you back in my blog. Due to a volunteering service on April 21st  to 26th some of my classmates(Irene, Saul and Alison) didn’t attend class, which is why I’m going to tell you a little bit about my experience.

First of all, the volunteering service was requested by the Gideos international group of El Salvador, this group is dedicated to making the Word of God available to everyone and, together with the local church, reaching souls for Christ, and they distribute bibles around the world. So I was assigned to different places (schools and universities) and people who only spoke english in order to distribute the Bibles, in my case I worked specifically with a businessman named Erik Oosthuizen along with some of my classmates(Saul, Irene, Alison, David) and other businessmen. During the whole week, we visited some schools and universities such as “Concha viuda de Escalon”, “Centro Escolar Las Moritas” in Lourdes, Colegio TAI in Ilopango, “Universidad Nacional” "Evangelica university", and others places. Unfortunately, some schools didn’t open their doors but some others were so happy to receive the bibles and hear what the missionaries wanted to say.

On Friday they organized a banquet to talk about the statistics of the job done during that week, and based on their statistics we visited 112 places(universities, schools, hospitals and police departments)  and 77,789 bibles were distributed.

I thought my work was done on Friday, however Erik asked me to be his tourist guide as he wanted to spend more time in our country because his flight was going to be until 7 pm. Of course I was more than happy to be Erik’s guide as it was the first time I did something like this. So on April 27th Erik and I went to El Tunco beach, besides it is great option as many tourists go there. After that, he wanted to buy some souvenirs for his family so we went to the national handcraft market, later we went to downtown I tried to show him some of the most emblematic places, then we drank some coffee and ate a chocolate dessert. We definitely had a great time and he thanked me for all the assistance.

We had a busy week and we faced many challenges such as their planning schedules, transportation, sometimes understanding the different accents of some members, but at the end of the week we learned a lot and I personally enjoyed meeting those people and help them with their mission and it was worth all the effort.

Multiple intelligences II

 Blog week  16th and 18th

Hi, I’m glad to have you back on my blog.

Today I’m happy to tell you about our class from April 16th and 18th. We continued learning about the multiple intelligences by listening to our classmates.

First, we listened to Genesis, Alison and Iliana. They explained the Kinesthetic intelligence. This intelligence involves control of one's body movements and the ability to handle objects skillfully. It includes skills such as coordination, balance, flexibility, etc.  As part of the activity we danced while they gave us instructions, additionally, we acted and my group performed a scene from the movie “Harry Potter”. That was very entertaining.

Second, Xochilt, Madeline, Sara and Cindy talked about interpersonal intelligence which is about understanding and interacting effectively with others. Later we did an activity which was about putting an emoji on the forehead of some volunteers and they had to guess the name of that feeling, then we made a medal in which we had to write down three words that described us better and we had to guess who’s medal belonged to.

Third, William, Kimberly and Emmanuel explained intrapersonal intelligence which involves self-awareness and understanding one's own emotions, motivations, and goals. At the beginning of the presentation, they did a mindfulness activity in which we had to put the right hand on our chest and breath while listening to a video they played. Finally, they gave us a paper and we had to act that feeling and they had a judges to score our performance. My team won during that activity and we had a lot of fun.

On April 18th  We Stefani, Soad and Tais  learned about naturalistic intelligence which is about understanding of nature, including plants, animals, and natural phenomena, besides that, they talked about the importance of recycling and their first activity was about that, then we played Kahoot and all the questions was about environment.

We definitely had a good week in which we learned from each other.
